Fashion History: The Pump

The standard pump has been in existence for as long as
ladies have been treading about on flat wooden floors.
Pumps more or less conform to the shape of the foot
and have that unique ability to span the fashion zones –
from classy to vampy, from formal to casual, from understated to way over-the-top.
There are so many variations on the standard shape.
Stiletto. Platform. Peep-Toe. Kitten Heels. Sling-Backs. Mary Janes.
More often than not, two or more of the themes are presented at once.
The new edge designers have on the standard pump is at rockstar level.

This fall/winter I am stocking up on any and all pumps with a hidden platform. I’m loving it.
