The Best Hike closest to Venice Beach

On Saturday morning, our first full day in Venice Beach I really wanted to take Sean on a California hike. On my last visit to Los Angeles I hiked Runyon Canyon. Although the views at Runyon Canyon were amazing, it was very “touristy” as it’s the most popular hiking spot on Instagram. I set out my search for the best hikes closest to Venice Beach the day before and did all kinds of research on the HikesPeak website.

I ended up deciding on the Topanga State Park for the best option closest to our Airbnb in Venice Beach. The Topanga State park preserves over 11,500 acres of the Santa Monica Mountains, just north of the Pacific Palisades. The park is considered the worlds largest wildland within the boundaries of major city!

The ocean views were the most talked about point of interest for Topanga State Park and I was excited about that the most. I love the salty air, and ocean breeze more than anything in the world and I could not wait to see it from the top.

Inside the Topanga State Park there are many trailhead offerings. Trippet Ranch is the  main trailhead offering hikes to Eagle Rock, an amazing sandstone. But we opted to start at the Los Liones Trail (2.6 miles) as it was the trail with the most ocean views, that leads to the Parker Mesa Overlook (6.7 miles).
